Helping young riders grow with confidence, character, and compassion—one horse, one rider, and one meaningful next chapter at a time.
Ready to Begin?
Every Academy journey starts with Begin With Heart™. Request your personalized orientation and discover the Academy or experience that's right for you. At Sunny Brook Stables, we believe riding is about more than learning to steer a horse. It is about developing confidence, responsibility, horsemanship, and a lifelong respect for the horse.
Our Youth Riding Academy is designed for children and teens who want to grow as riders while building meaningful partnerships with horses in a safe, encouraging, and educational environment. Whether your child dreams of riding for fun, competing in the show ring, or simply spending time with horses, the Academy provides a progressive pathway that develops both the rider and the person.
More than a Riding Lesson
The Youth Riding Academy combines mounted riding instruction with horsemanship education, horse care, and an understanding of the individual horse. Students learn that becoming a rider includes learning to:
Ride with confidence and correct fundamentals
Groom and prepare their horse
Practice safe horse handling
Understand horse behavior and communication
Care for tack and equipment
Build responsibility, patience, and sportsmanship
Develop confidence both in and out of the saddle
At Sunny Brook Stables, the horse is an active partner in every lesson—not simply equipment for learning to ride.
Our Academy Philosophy
Every rider develops at their own pace.
Our instructors thoughtfully match riders with appropriate horses and provide individualized instruction that encourages steady progress while always placing horse welfare first.
We celebrate growth, effort, kindness, and good horsemanship just as much as ribbons and achievements. We don't simply teach riders how to ride horses. We teach riders to know the horse they ride.
The Academy Journey Every rider begins with Begin with Heart™, our welcome and orientation experience for new Academy families. From there, riders progress through individualized instruction, horsemanship education, and age-appropriate opportunities to build confidence, independence, and partnership with the horse. As riders grow, opportunities may include:
Youth Riding Academy lessons
Horsemanship and horse care education
Seasonal camps and educational experiences
Team Academy preparation
Community events and horse-centered activities
Is the Youth Riding Academy Right for Your Child?
The Academy is ideal for children who are:
New to horses and eager to learn
Returning to riding after time away
Interested in developing strong riding fundamentals
Looking for a positive, educational riding community
Excited to build meaningful relationships with horses
