Growing the Next Generation of Compassionate Horsemen and Horsewomen.
At Red Heart Horse, we believe the future of horse welfare begins by teaching children to understand, respect, and care for the horse.

Young Stewards is Red Heart Horse's signature youth stewardship education program, designed to help children develop confidence, responsibility, empathy, and compassionate horsemanship through meaningful experiences with horses. Children don't simply learn about horses—they learn how to become thoughtful caretakers, advocates, and lifelong stewards.
Stewardship Begins Before Riding
Every meaningful relationship with a horse begins with understanding the horse. Young Stewards™ introduces children to the principles of horse welfare, communication, safety, and responsible care before focusing on riding skills.
Through age-appropriate, hands-on experiences, participants discover that horses are living partners—not simply animals to ride.
What Young Stewards Learn
Our program introduces children to:
Horse safety and respectful behavior
Horse communication and body language
Grooming and daily horse care
Feeding and wellness awareness
Tack identification and care
Horse behavior and observation
Senior horse care
Rehabilitation and rescue awareness
Compassionate horsemanship
Stewardship and responsibility
Every activity encourages curiosity, kindness, and respect for the individual horse.
Learning Through the Stories of the Horses The Red Heart Horses each have unique stories. Some are retired after years of teaching riders. Some have overcome illness or injury. Some require specialized care as they age. Children learn how every horse's story shapes the care they receive today and how compassion can create meaningful next chapters for horses in need.
Hands-On Learning Depending on the age of participants and the needs of the horses, experiences may include:
Grooming and horse care
Barn stewardship
Horse enrichment activities

Through Young Stewards™, children discover that caring for horses is about much more than riding—it is about building character, responsibility, and respect for every stage of a horse's life.
